This artwork encapsulates a modular puzzle of the Flora world, where extinctions and emergences co-occur. It delves into 19 changing flora species within the last 70 years in England, serving as a microcosm of the Anthropocene. The piece is divided into two parts: one presents extinct flora through hand-stitched introductions and sketches, illustrating the fragility of their existence; the other employs vibrant, colourful prints to depict emerging flora patterns, showcasing the flexibility of plant life. In the backdrop of industrialisation, where plants have primarily been seen as mere resources, this interactive modular textile puzzle aims to engage individuals in reevaluating the intrinsic value of plant lives and their interconnectedness with us. By inviting participation, cognition, and reflection, it strives to pave the way for a harmonious nature-human collaboration, contributing to a healthier future for both ecosystems and our well-being.
